[Quantum Mechanics and Non-Self: There Is No Fixed “Me”]

Sometimes, modern science echoes ancient wisdom.

In particular, quantum mechanics and Buddhism both offer a radical idea:

Nothing is fixed.
Not even "me."

🎲 Where is the Electron? – Existence as Probability

In quantum physics, an electron is not a tiny ball sitting in one spot.
Instead, it's described by a probability wave — a mathematical function that shows where it might be.

Until we observe it, the electron doesn’t have a fixed location.
It’s not “here” or “there” — it’s just potential, waiting to become something real.

🪷 Non-Self (Anatta) – “There is No Self That Is Truly Mine”

Buddhism teaches anatta, or non-self.
This means that what we think of as “me” isn’t a solid, unchanging thing.
It’s a temporary combination of:

  • Body,

  • Thoughts,

  • Emotions…

…all arising and disappearing based on causes and conditions.

So “I” am not my body.
“I” am not my mind.
“I” am just the current state of all these things coming together — for a while.

🧩 The 8-Fold Path & The 8-Fold Way – Finding Patterns

In the 1960s, physicists discovered a way to classify subatomic particles called the Eightfold Way.
This structure eventually led to the quark model — a major leap in understanding matter.

In Buddhism, the Eightfold Path is a guide for ending suffering:

  • Right view, right intention, right speech, right action…
Each a way to move toward clarity and peace.

Both “Eightfold” paths — in science and in spirit — are maps to navigate complexity.

🌌 Nothing Is Fixed Until Observed

In quantum mechanics, a particle’s state is decided only when observed.
In Buddhism, reality depends on how the mind perceives and responds.

In both, nothing exists in isolation.
Everything exists in relationship,
always changing, never static.

☸️ Physics and Meditation: Speaking the Same Truth

Quantum mechanics shows us that reality isn’t locked in place.
Buddhism shows us that the “self” isn’t either.

One speaks through math.
The other through mindfulness.
But they both ask the same question:

Who am I?
What really exists?

In that question, science and spirituality quietly meet.

📌 In the End: Toward Nirvana

We are not fixed beings.
Just like electrons, we are movement, not structure.
The moment we see that,
we take a step closer to Nirvana
a state beyond clinging, beyond confusion,
where we can simply be.
