Korean Acupuncture (K-Acupuncture) [Part 9] Acupuncture Prescriptions for Soeum Constitution
Modern Korean Acupuncture (K-Acupuncture) [Part 9] Acupuncture Prescriptions for Soeum Constitution : Suyang & Sueum Types
Welcome to the final chapter of our Eight Constitutional Acupuncture series!
Today, we’ll examine the Soeum (少陰人) constitution—known for its delicate, introspective, and cool-natured energy.
Soeum types are divided into:
Suyang Type (水陽體質 / Water-Yang)
Sueum Type (水陰體質 / Water-Yin)
Both types exhibit strong Kidney (Water) energy and weak Spleen/Stomach (Earth) energy.
The treatment strategy is focused on tonifying the Earth (Spleen/Stomach) and draining excess Water (Kidney).
1. Suyang Type (水陽體質)
Visceral Strength Hierarchy:
Kidney (Water) > Liver (Wood) > Heart (Fire) > Lung (Metal) > Spleen (Earth)
Core Imbalance:
Excessive Kidney energy
Weak Spleen function
Basic Prescription: Earth-Tonifying Formula (土補方)
Centered around the Fire element, this prescription strengthens weak Spleen Qi and suppresses excess Kidney Water.
✦ Key Acupoints
Tonification (補穴):
Taibai (SP3): Boosts Spleen function
Zusanli (ST36): Enhances digestive energy
Sedation (瀉穴):
Fuliu (KI7): Controls excessive Kidney Water
Weizhong (BL40): Drains excess from the Bladder channel
⚠️ Caution:
Do not sedate Fire points (HT, SI channels) to avoid further weakening Earth (Spleen/Stomach) energy.
Supplementary Prescriptions
• Exocrine Supplement (Metal-Tonifying):
Taiyuan (LU9), Quchi (LI11): For skin conditions and respiratory issues
• Endocrine Drainage (Fire-Draining):
Shenmen (HT7), Shaohai (HT3): For insomnia, headaches, and excess Heart fire
• Mental Support (Harmonizing):
Zhongchong (PC9), Quze (PC3): For anxiety, nervous tension
Common Symptoms:

Basic Prescription: Water-Draining Formula (水瀉方)
This treatment suppresses excessive Water and nourishes the weakened Earth organs using Fire-centered Five Phase principles.
